Princess Eugenie’s favourite MUA Hannah Martin is one of the best-known artists in the UK and she has created the easiest smokey eye hack you are ever likely to see.
Hannah was also rumoured to have taught Kate Middleton about makeup before her wedding to Prince William when she was still working at Bobbi Brown, back in the day.
Freelance now, she posts lots of makeup how-to’s on social media, and she tries to make the art of makeup simple for everyone. And this smokey eye tutorial is about as simple as it gets. If you want to try doing it, you will only need a couple of its that you might already have in your bag.
Smokey Eye Hack
Hannah uses five things for this chocolate brown smokey eye – a chocolate cream shadow stick, two eye makeup brushes, a deep brown eyeshadow and mascara.
To start with, she scribbles the shadow stick all over her upper eyelids and buffs it out with a flat brush that works better with creamy textures. She applies a couple of dots of the shadow stick under the lower lashes and then buffs that out too. Laura Mercier’s Matte Shadow Stick in Cafe Noir would be perfect for this, see below. This is the base of the smokey eye completed.
The Method
Using the same brush, Hannah then adds the deep chocolate powder shadow into the cream on her upper lids and blends it in. This adds depth to the smokey eye and she uses what she calls a ‘windscreen wiper’ way of blending the shadow out so there are no harsh lines. MAC’s Espresso Eyeshadow would be perfect for this, €24.
Lastly, she adds mascara and lots of it, we’re loving Huda Beauty One Coat Wow Mascara at the minute for all the volume it gives, €22.60. She adds ‘You could of course add more to this look…glitter…lashes…whatever you like but this is a simple, matte black Smokey eye that wins every time!’ The final look is so good and you can see just how it makes her blue eyes pop, but it would look just as good on green or brown eyes. A gorgeous smokey eye for Christmas or New Year parties with something sparkly to wear, we reckon.
