OBSBOT Meet Flip Review: Foldable 4K Webcam with AI Tracking

Can a 4K webcam for just 129 euros really deliver? The recently unveiled OBSBOT Meet Flip aims to prove just that: It’s the manufacturer’s smallest camera to date, folds up completely, and still features a 48-megapixel Sony sensor, HDR, and AI tracking. Since the significantly more expensive OBSBOT Tiny 3 (our review) completely won me over in the 4K segment, I was all the more curious to see how much camera OBSBOT delivers for about a third of the price. Our OBSBOT Meet Flip review will determine whether this foldable tiny camera strikes the right balance between price and performance.

OBSBOT Meet Flip Review: Small, Foldable, and Clever

The name says it all with the OBSBOT Meet Flip: The entire camera unit is mounted on a hinge and can be folded up and down. When folded, the camera shrinks to the size of a single building block and easily fits into your pants pocket. It’s precisely this “flip” that’s the core idea behind the camera: when folded, the mechanism serves both as a hardware privacy cover and a standby switch. For those who don’t want to cover the lens with a sticky plastic slider, this offers a much more elegant solution.

With dimensions of approximately 40 x 40 x 15 mm and a weight of just 37.7 grams, the Meet Flip is even more compact than the cameras in the Tiny series—even though, strictly speaking, it doesn’t actually belong to the Tiny family. The webcam’s color scheme is understated: matte black, a silver hinge, and dark gray logo lettering. The plastic housing is neatly finished and feels high-quality despite the affordable price.

The camera is mounted using a fold-out bracket that rests on the monitor frame along with the front edge. Rubberized contact surfaces ensure a secure hold. However, this is also where the first weakness in our test becomes apparent: Due to its design, the bracket can only open up to 90 degrees because the USB-C port is located on the back and the camera is a closed system. On thicker or older monitors with a bezel depth of more than about 2.5 cm, the Meet Flip is therefore difficult or impossible to mount. If you already own a camera from the Meet series, you can mount the Flip on its bracket—otherwise, the 1/4-inch tripod thread on the bottom comes in handy.

A minor criticism: The included USB-C cable is quite stiff. Combined with the feather-light housing, this means the camera shifts more easily than I’d like when set up. Included in the package, along with the camera, are the aforementioned USB-C cable and a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter—in case you don’t have a free USB-C port.

Setup and Software for the OBSBOT Meet Flip

There’s nothing to complain about when it comes to setup: plug in the USB cable, flip open the camera unit, and you’re done. Thanks to plug-and-play, the Meet Flip is immediately ready for use as a webcam and works with Zoom, Teams, OBS, and similar apps. However, if you simply plug the camera in directly, you’re missing out on much of its potential, as the camera only truly unleashes its strengths when used in conjunction with the software.

The central hub is the OBSBOT Center—familiar from other OBSBOT cameras—which allows you to manage up to four cameras simultaneously. The interface is intentionally kept streamlined and organized into the sections Tracking, Image Settings, and General Settings. After launching the app, the camera must first be “woken up” briefly; once that’s done, the full range of features becomes available.

The image settings offer more than just turning HDR on and off: autofocus and automatic exposure can be set to either face-based or global modes, and there are manual controls for white balance, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and color cast. The anti-flicker mode is particularly useful, as it reliably eliminates the typical 50-Hz flicker found in many light sources. In the general settings, I configure zoom, gesture control, and the microphone—and this is also where I perform firmware updates, which you should check for regularly.

In addition to OBSBOT Center, OBSBOT Live offers a solution that connects the camera directly to the streaming platform of your choice. However, don’t expect a veritable fireworks display of features like the Tiny 3 offers with its countless AI tools, LUTs, and virtual effects: The Meet Flip is limited to basic image enhancements, background effects, and overlay support. For its intended purpose—video conferencing and working from home—this is more than sufficient, though, and keeps the interface pleasantly straightforward.

Image and Audio Quality of the OBSBOT Meet Flip

Let’s get to the most exciting part: image quality. And here, the Meet Flip honestly surprised me. Sure, the 1/2-inch sensor is only about half the size of the Tiny 3’s 1/1.28-inch sensor, and the difference in detail is visible upon close inspection. But for a webcam in this price range, this little flip-up camera delivers a surprisingly clean, well-balanced image—even in challenging lighting conditions, thanks to its large f/1.8 aperture and stacked Sony sensor.

Even without any adjustments, the Meet Flip performs well in low light: dark areas of the image show hardly any distracting noise, and skin tones illuminated by a key light don’t appear overexposed. With HDR enabled, the image looks even more balanced. In many cases, the light from the monitor alone is enough to achieve even illumination. The PDAF autofocus works precisely and responds smoothly to changes in position; the automatic white balance and anti-flicker mode also function reliably.

AI tracking is also a standard feature: The camera automatically detects the person in front of the lens and keeps them continuously in the frame. It’s important to note that the Meet Flip tracks subjects purely digitally—it doesn’t have a mechanical gimbal like the Tiny series. Consequently, the tracking range is slightly smaller than that of the Meet SE, for example, and the tracking reaches its limits during very fast movements. For everyday use at your desk, however, this is more than enough. I was pleasantly surprised by the gesture control: as long as both hands are in the frame, the camera reliably distinguishes between right and left, allowing you to conveniently control the zoom with hand gestures, for example. However, there is no voice control like the one found on the Tiny 3.

Audio Quality of the OBSBOT Meet Flip

For audio, the Meet Flip relies on a dual-microphone system consisting of one directional and one omnidirectional MEMS microphone. Depending on the situation, there are four audio modes to choose from: a Solo mode with directional recording for noisier environments, a Face-to-Face mode for one-on-one conversations, a Small Group mode that balances the voices of several people around the table, and an unprocessed mode. This makes the camera clearly tailored for office and meeting use.

When sitting directly in front of the camera, speech intelligibility is good, and the AI-powered noise cancellation effectively filters out background noise—a truly impressive result for a webcam in this price range. As expected, the Meet Flip can’t quite match a dedicated microphone or a good headset. Anyone who streams or produces content regularly should continue to rely on external audio equipment. For video calls and everyday work-from-home use, however, the sound quality is more than adequate.

OBSBOT Meet Flip Review: Conclusion

The OBSBOT Meet Flip proves in this review that an affordable webcam no longer has to mean compromising on the basics. For around 129 euros, you get an ultra-compact, foldable 4K camera with a Sony sensor, a large f/1.8 aperture, HDR, reliable AI tracking, and gesture control. The foldable camera module is particularly clever—it doubles as a hardware privacy shield and makes the cam the ideal travel companion. The image quality is noticeably better than what you’d expect in this price range, and the microphone system—optimized for meetings—performs respectably for a webcam.

Of course, you have to make some compromises here and there. The monitor mount only opens up to 90 degrees, so it doesn’t fit every screen; the stiff cable causes some wobbling given the device’s light weight; and professional features like a mechanical gimbal, PTZ functions, voice control, or the Tiny 3’s extensive software toolkit are missing. The AI tracking also works only digitally and within a limited range.

Ultimately, though, you have to view this in the right context: The Meet Flip isn’t meant to be a studio camera for ambitious streamers, but rather the perfect webcam for the home office, for hybrid work environments, and for anyone who frequently switches between different locations. And it fulfills this role exceptionally well. If you’re looking for a straightforward, compact, yet high-quality webcam for video conferencing without breaking the bank, the OBSBOT Meet Flip is the perfect choice. If, on the other hand, your focus is on streaming or content production, the Meet SE, the Meet 2, or even the Tiny 3 are the better choices.
