Wherever Sennheiser is on the label, there is always a convincing sound inside. This should also apply to the new USB microphone that the manufacturer has now introduced. The Sennheiser Profile wants to convince streamers, podcasters and gamers alike and comes optionally even in a set including 3-point microphone boom.
Inside the Sennheiser Profile works the KE10 condenser capsule with a cardioid characteristic, which is to dampen the sound that does not hit the microphone frontally. Thus, only the user’s voice should be in the foreground and transmitted clearly.
In addition, the Profile is supposed to be particularly user-friendly. Sennheiser says it has focused on “developing technology that doesn’t get in the way of the creative process.”
The connection is modern via USB-C directly with PC, Mac or tablet, where the microphone is automatically detected and ready to use. There is no need for an interface, software or additional settings – well, that is actually the case with every USB microphone.
The Sennheiser Profile is controlled exclusively via the controls, which are located directly on the microphone.
The front of the Profile USB microphone features a soft-touch mute button, a gain control for microphone volume, a mix control for adjusting the balance between voice and device audio, and a volume control for headphone monitoring.
A 3.5mm jack on the back of the Profile allows you to connect headphones and earphones.
You’ll also find illuminated LED rings on the front that provide information about the microphone’s operating status. A green LED around the gain control indicates that the microphone is ready for use.
If the same ring glows yellow intermittently or continuously, the microphone is overdriven and the microphone volume needs to be reduced. When the microphone is muted, the LED rings around the mute button and gain control light up red.
Sound-wise, the Sennheiser Profile aims to impress with a natural, warm sound.
“A good capsule is essential for this, but the placement of the microphone also plays a decisive role. You should place it about 15 cm from the mouth or sound source to ensure both warmth and clarity,” explains product manager Benny Franke.
The 3/8″ and 5/8″ connectors on the bottom allow the use of various table stands and microphone arms. Alternatively, the manufacturer also offers the USB microphone as a streaming set, which comes with a self-fixing 3-point articulated arm. Cables can be hidden invisibly in the microphone arm, while the visually discreet set should also cut a good figure in live streams.
The Sennheiser Profile USB microphone is available in stores now. Pricing starts at an MSRP of 129 euros for the microphone with table stand. The streaming set with 3-point arm is priced at 199.00 euros.
