WWE SummerSlam 2025 Night 2 emanates from MetLife Stadium with almost 55,000 tickets sold. Cody Rhodes will challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship in a rematch of their WrestleMania 41 main event. John Cena shockingly turned babyface out of nowhere this past Friday on SmackDown, but much like Seth Rollins’ knee injury, fans are dubious.

WWE SummerSlam Night 2 offers up a strong follow-up to Night 1 after a wild ending where Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract after faking a knee injury at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. CM Punk dethroned Gunther in an instant classic of a war during a 30-minute main event, only to be dethroned himself by Rollins. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship has changed hands three times since June 9, 2025. Last night was not without its flaws, however.

Sami Zayn’s win over Karrion Kross was forgettable to say the least. Kross has an edgy online gimmick going, but unlike Ricochet it has translated to real-life popularity. If MetLife Stadium is chanting your name, you’re doing something right. Unfortunately, Kross’ matches have left a lot to be desired. In his biggest WWE match to date, Kross underdelivered amid a promising stipulation.

WWE SummerSlam Night 1 Highlights

• Roman Reigns and Jey Uso got revenge over Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed after Reigns sacrificed himself for Jey Uso. Reigns took a Spear in place of Jey, leading to a wild Jey comeback and win.
• Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles after overcoming a miscue. The pair went from frenemies to friends. Next stop? BFF’s.
• Tiffany Stratton retained the WWE Women’s Championship over Jade Cargill in a short, but flashy match.
• Jelly Roll Shined in his in-ring debut, taking an insane Frog Splash through a table form Logan Paul. He ultimately came up short by taking the pin, but the celebrity tag team match stole the show. Randy Orton made history with his 17th SummerSlam match.
• CM Punk won his first world championship in 14 years, only for Seth Rollins to return on crutches with his Money in the Bank briefcase in tow. In a surprise to anybody who doesn’t spend all their free time tweeting, Rollins shed his crutches and cashed in on his bitter rival CM Punk. In addition to the Money in the Bank briefcase and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Seth Rollins was also awarded the unofficial title of WWE’s Biggest Hater.

WWE SummerSlam Night 2 is headlined by John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes in a Street Fight for the WWE Championship. WWE added a wrinkle to this match after a surprise babyface turn from John Cena, leaving the finish even more in doubt. The odds are very close, and for the second night in a row, the main event is setting up for a wild finish.

Potential show-stealing matches include the crowded Tag Team TLC match, which basically features the entire SmackDown tag team roster. Lyra Valkyria will attempt to regain her WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship—possibly with a Heel Bayley waiting in the wings. Jacob Fatu looks to regain his US Title against Solo Sikoa inside of a Steel Cage, and Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky and Naomi will try to top last month’s masterpiece between Rhea and Iyo. This was considered by many to be the greatest WWE women’s match of all time, and Naomi crashed the ending with a Money in the Bank cash-in.
