FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – UPDATE: The family of the driver involved in Friday’s vehicle crash and fire on I-94 say he has passed away from his injuries.
71-year-old Reed Satrom from Detroit Lakes was first brought to a local hospital for his injuries, before being flown to a trauma burn center in St. Paul, Minn. Satrom’s family tells Valley News Live he passed away with his family at his side Monday morning.
The passenger, 53-year-old Everett Northup, also from Detroit Lakes, remains hospitalized with serious injuries, but officials say he is in stable condition.
North Dakota Highway Patrol says the crash happened when the men crashed a pickup into the back of a tractor trailer and caught fire just after 3 p.m. on July 29.
Satrom was driving the truck eastbound near the University Drive exit in Fargo, when officials say he failed to see a tractor trailer slowing down due to road construction. Highway Patrol says the truck crashed and immediately caught fire.
The person driving the tractor trailer was not injured.
