Tour local studios and businesses and enjoy demonstrations during this annual event.
STATEWIDE — Maine Craft Weekend, an annual statewide tour of craft studios, business and events, takes place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2. It offers an opportunity for the public to explore the life and work of craft artists and businesses and for artists to connect with craft enthusiasts, collectors and visitors behind the scenes.
Examples of participating sites include private artist studios, glass blowing studios, outdoor installation sites, non-profit craft organizations, craft-based schools, craft beer breweries collaborating with artists, and pop-up shops.
The following are participants in Knox and Waldo counties:
BELFAST
Belfast Fiberarts, 171 High St., Suite 8 and 11. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Demonstrations of weaving, spinning yarn and other fiber arts. Used book sale of vintage and rare textile books. Sales on yarn, embroidery kits and rug hooking supplies.
HOPE
Oyster River Joinery, 182 Church St. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Come to this open studio to see the process from tree to final product. Sales and refreshments.
LIBERTY
Fisher-Barberio Studio, 269 Upper Hostile Valley Road. 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. A visual treasure trove of rugs, baskets and barrel-fired pottery. The tapestry loom will be set up to view the in-progress “Water and Wave” series of pictorial weavings.
Prescott Hill Studios, 261 Prescott Hill Road. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Unique, handmade pottery and jewelry at this open studio.
ROCKLAND
Kim Bernard Studio, 7 Laurel St. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The artist opens her studio and PopUpCycler, sharing upcycled sculpture, wares and wearables — all made out of local recycled materials. Plastic recycling machine demonstrations. Bring a #2 milk, water or juice jug and transform it into sculpture yourself.
ROCKPORT
Bonnie’s Place, 288 Mill St. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m both days. Retail shop filled with the creations of more than 100 Maine craftspeople. Refreshments.
THOMASTON
At Home Modern Weaving Studio, 73 High St. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, by appointment Sunday. Join Bobbie Tilkens-Fisher in her studio for a weaving demonstration. As a tapestry weaver who blurs the boundaries between weaving and sculpture, her merino wool wall hangings boast bold colors and abstract forms.
