‘Know Your Rights’ talk slated next week | News, Sports, Jobs – The Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE — A representative of the state Division of Human Rights will speak at a presentation on LGBTQIA-plus rights at North Country Community College next week.
As a part of the Adirondack North Country Gender Alliance’s annual Adirondack North Country Pride celebration on Oct. 1 in Plattsburgh, the organization is planning a series of presentations on LGBTQIA-plus rights in New York state. Deputy Commissioner Jillian Faison, from the state Division of Human Rights, will be on hand to inform LGBTQIA-plus community members, allies, families and the general public of their legal LGBTQI-plus rights and how to identify and approach a situation in which their rights may have been violated.
Faison will speak about the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act and the newly enacted Crown Act, barring discrimination based on a person’s ethnic or racial hair styles. This event is in response to the continued violation of the rights of marginalized communities, according to a news release from the ANCGA.
“Many New York state citizens expressed that they feel their LGBTQI-plus rights were constantly being violated, however many were not aware of the resources and information available to them,” the news release reads.
The free presentation at NCCC’s Dave Petty Lecture Hall in Saranac Lake is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. For more information, contact the ANCGA at 518-637-7253 or by email at ancga@outlook.com.
