July unrest: Teacher, financial adviser and optometrist's assistant – the unlikely masterminds? – News24

Only one of the 22 people arrested on Thursday and accused of instigating the July 2021 riots can accurately be described as a key figure in fanning the flames of looting and destruction that ripped through KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
More than 300 people died or were murdered during the violence.
Among those arrested this week are a primary school teacher, an employee of a car dealership in Berea who until recently was a Sassa grant recipient, a Department of Health worker who helps manage facilities at Harry Gwala Hospital, a worker at an engineering business, a financial adviser at a major bank, an alarm company technician and an employee of an optometrist in Dundee.
