Cynophiles and zythophiles (those are fancy words for lovers of dogs and craft beer enthusiasts, respectively) alike will want to save the date – Sunday, Oct. 16 – for the second annual Growl-er Brewfest at SELCRA Meijer Park in Brighton.
“It’s Livingston County’s only dog-centric beer tasting and food truck rally,” said organizer Whitney McClellan-Stone, of 2 Stones Events. “We launched it last fall and were excited to host around 300 people…and a lot of pooches!”
The event is a partnership between 2 Stones and SELCRA (SouthEastern Livingston County Recreational Authority), with the latter receiving a portion of the proceeds.
SELCRA’s mission is to “promote individual, community, and economic stewardship by providing outstanding recreation, sports and leisure programs for citizens of all ages. SELCRA aims to develop more park land and facilities for recreation and sports.”
The event will also have a donation drop-off area for dog beds, crates, food, treats, etc., which will be donated to Bountiful Harvest Pet Pantry, said McClellan.
Growl-er Brewfest will feature a dog-gone fun obstacle course; puppy pools; and photo ops for pups and their humans. All dogs attending the event must be kept on leash at all times and be human- and dog-friendly.
There will be a wide variety of craft brewers on hand offering samples of their tasty creations. Ticket-holders will get a branded Growl-er Brewfest pint glass and 12 drink tickets, each good for a 3-ounce pour.
“Early Bird tickets are $30,” said McClellan-Stone, “but those will go up to $40 after Oct. 1. They’re available online now but a limited number will be sold day-of at the gate. And we also have Designated Driver tickets that include entry to the event for $10. Of course, all dogs are welcome!”
A trio of food trucks will be serving up barbecue, Mexican food and hot dogs. Live music will be provided by keyboardist/vocalist Jarrod Champion.
“He’s one of our favorite musicians,” said McClellan-Stone. “We’ve had him at numerous venues and events around Brighton, including Smokin’ Jazz and Taste or Brighton.”
Rain or shine, Growl-er Brewfest will run from 3-7 p.m. Attendees must be 21 or older. Free parking will be available at St. Patrick School, next to SELCRA Meijer Park (across from the Brighton Post Office on Charles H. Orndorf Drive).
