Shawn Hoyt is joining the administrative team at Greenwich High School as the interim science program administrator.
GREENWICH — Greenwich Public Schools appointed a new interim science program administrator at the high school, Superintendent Toni Jones announced Wednesday.
Shawn Hoyt has replaced John DeLuca, who recently left GPS to join Westport Public Schools, Jones said.
“I am honored to be joining the administrative team at Greenwich High School as the interim science program administrator,” Hoyt said. “The teachers in the science department are first class, and I am excited to collaborate with them to ensure the success of all of the students at GHS.”
Hoyt has been with GPS since 2016, serving as a science teacher at GHS, instructing students in biology and chemistry. In addition, he has also served as an academic coach and learning facilitator, working with teachers to create personalized learning lessons.
He started his career as an educator in 2014 as a science teacher at Tolland High School, instructing students in physiology and in biology and anatomy.
“We are very excited to add Shawn Hoyt to our administrative team,” GHS Principal Ralph Mayo said. “He is a very bright and capable science educator who brings a great deal of knowledge and expertise to the department.”
In the new job, Hoyt will be responsible for the design, development and evaluation of the science program at GHS, ensuring alignment with Connecticut and Next-Generation Science Standards. In addition, he will work with, supervise and evaluate high school science teachers.
Hoyt holds a bachelor’s in sports biology from Springfield College and a master’s in human nutrition from the University of Bridgeport.
This is the latest in a string of hiring decisions in the Greenwich school district before classes begin in fall. Earlier this week, Greenwich Public Schools announced the appointment of two interim assistant principals: Jenna Mazzilli, a former New Lebanon School educator, is returning to the school as interim assistant principal, and Erin Montague will serve as Western Middle School’s interim assistant principal.
Other recent job announcements include a new assistant principal at Central Middle School; a new chief operating officer on the administrative team; interim principals at Cos Cob School and Hamilton Avenue School; an assistant principal named at Parkway School; and a new administrator to oversee world language instruction.
