In the second half of back-to-back games, the Philadelphia Flyers (20-20-7) are back at the Wells Fargo Center. They will welcome the Winnipeg Jets (30-16-1) on Sunday night.
Both the Flyers and Jets have played well recently. Both teams have won seven of their last 10 games.
Winnipeg cruised to a 5-1 win Saturday in Ottawa. Mark Scheifele (2-1), Blake Wheeler (1-2), and Nikolaj Ehlers (1-2) had three points in the Jets victory.
The Flyers were in a scoreless game until Scott Laughton broke the tie in the third period of an eventual 2-1 Philadelphia victory. Noah Cates scored as well while Carter Hart came within 43 seconds of his first shutout of the season.
The Flyers were credited with 31 blocks on the night as Hart ended up making 30 saves.
“We talked about it before the game about getting back to playing a bit harder and blocking some more shots,” Hart said about his team’s defensive effort. “And we did that tonight and it shows. A lot of big blocks. It’s a huge part of why we got the win.”
The Flyers and Jets will see each other twice in the span of a week. This is their first matchup since a 4-0 shutout loss for Philadelphia in the second-to-last game of the 2021-22 season. Kyle Connor had three points in the Jets’ victory.
Both teams are playing on the second half of a back-to-back and coming back from road games as well. This will be the fourth of a five-game road trip for Winnipeg. The Jets have lost two of three games on the trip thus far.
The Flyers are finishing a brutal stretch in which they will have played five games in seven nights.
