All Eyes Should Be On Avenged Sevenfold Right Now

With the release of Avenged Sevenfold’s new single “Nobody,” it’s evident that the eclectic modern metal heavy weights are gearing up for what might be their biggest sonic evolution yet. “Nobody,” is the band’s first single for their upcoming eighth studio album Life Is But A Dream…, which is slated to release June 2nd, 2023. Upon first listening to “Nobody” it’s immediately apparent the extent to which Avenged Sevenfold have challenged themselves to craft something new and leagues apart from any of their previous works. From the track’s revving industrial riff to the orchestral and operatic like elements showcased throughout, not to mention the progressive solo break towards the track’s latter half, Avenged Sevenfold have set high expectations for how nuanced this record is looking to be.

Arguably, what’s most intriguing about AX7’s upcoming record is not so much the different sonic and production elements they’ve gone with, but rather what the band is trying to convey both lyrically and thematically on this album. Sure, the music itself is a clear sign Ax7 are treading down a new path on this record, however, the overarching concepts for this album is supposedly focused on the human condition and the inevitable end to one’s life. If this is the case Life Is But A Dream… is attempting to be a far deeper record than anything AX7 have ever done, and it’ll be interesting to see how the band’s new sonic elements compliment these concepts.

Pre-orders for the new album have officially gone live, and if fans take a look at the webstore they’ll see the band has offered a few words to tease the album’s thesis.

“Avenged Sevenfold’s new album, Life Is But A Dream, is best served as a whole and consumed en masse to truly appreciate its musical breadth and sonic depth. Written and recorded over the span of 4 years, it was produced by Joe Barresi and Avenged Sevenfold in Los Angeles and mixed by Andy Wallace in the Poconos, PA. The album is a journey through an existential crisis; a very personal exploration into the meaning, purpose and value of human existence with the anxiety of death always looming.”

In the meantime, the band has announced two headline shows surrounding the release of their forthcoming record, one in the band’s hometown of Los Angeles at the KIA Forum and the other at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Both shows will feature support from Falling In Reverse and Pussy Riot, acts which Avenged Sevenfold have publicly praised over recent years.
