HOUSTON – ‘Tis the season to get creative!
Alexis Geissler, owner, and founder of CraftWorx in Richmond stopped by Houston Life with 2 easy DIY projects you can do at home ahead of Thanksgiving.
These crafts are perfect if you are hosting guests or to take as a gift if you’re at someone else’s house for a holiday meal.
Geissler showed the simple steps to create a turkey place setting and a stovetop simmer tray.

Materials:
• Terra cotta pot
• Artificial leaf/leaves
• Brown felt, foam, or paper
• Orange felt, foam or paper
• Red felt, foam or paper
• Decorations such as raffia, buttons, etc.
• Googley eyes
• Hot glue gun
• Filler such as candy or succulents
Directions:
1) Glue leaf or leaves to the back of the pot.
2) Cut out turkey shapes – Body, beak, and waddle.
3) Glue the body to pot.
4) Add beak, waddle, and eyes.
5) Add embellishments.
6) Fill with items such as candy or a succulent.
7) Set at each place setting and enjoy!
Materials:
• Tray, mug, jar, or another container
• Dried fruit such as oranges, cranberries, apples
• Spices such as star anise, cinnamon, candied ginger, cloves
• Other fragrant items such as vanilla bean pods, rosemary, bay leaves, pine needles
• Items to decorate container, if desired (paint, stickers, etc.)
• Cellophane to wrap items if not using the jar
• Ribbon to add a decorative touch
• Instructions on making the simmer
Directions:
1) Gather materials to include in simmer (recipes can be found online.)
2) Decorate tray or jar, if desired.
3) Wrap items if loose, and place them in a container (not necessary in a jar).
4) Place decorative ribbon and attach instruction card.
5) Gift to the host or hostess!
